Dental Tips: How Can the Child Dental Benefits Schedule Help Children?
A survey from the University of Adelaide has revealed the dental health of Australian children is at risk.
The study showed that 25% of Australian children, ages ten and below, suffer from untreated tooth decay.
The lead researcher, Associate Professor Loc Do reported, “Over 40 per cent of children aged 5 to 10 years had decay in their primary [baby] teeth.
One-quarter of children in that same age group had never received treatment for their tooth decay. On average, Australian children aged 5 to 10 had 1.5 primary teeth with decay”.
In children aged 9-14, 33% suffered permanent teeth with decay, and one-seventh of the children have never received treatment for decay in their permanent teeth.
Finally, 11% of Australian children have never seen a dentist under any circumstance.
At Warner Lakes Dental, we are concerned about the health of all Australians, but particularly our children in Warner and its surrounds.
If your child, or a child you know, is suffering dental issues for lack of funds, Warner Lakes Dental has some great news.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) can help many children receive the dental care they need and deserve.
Child Dental Benefits Schedule
The Commonwealth Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a dental benefits program supporting eligible children from 2–17 years of age.
It provides benefits over two years to the child for essential dental services. It covers more than 3 million children, making them eligible for dental care funded through Medicare.
What services are offered?
The CDBS covers a range of essential dental services including:
- Clean, scale, and polish
- Fissure sealing
- Root canal treatment
According to the Department of Human Services web page, Benefits will not be paid for cosmetic or orthodontic dental work, or services provided in a hospital.
Also, “CDBS services won’t count towards the Medicare Safety Net or the Extended Medicare Safety Net thresholds.”
